My student group from Forest Lake, MN and I had the surprise and pleasure of observing a Full Honors Wreath Laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on Friday, June 24, 2022. Laying the Wreath was Major General Allan M. Pepin, Commander of Joint Task Force - National Capital Region and The U.S. Army Military District of Washington in collaboration with the United States Secret Service. Neither the audio or the video in this impromptu capture do justice to the experience, but I still wanted to share as I am at Arlington a great deal and this is the first time I have seen this ceremony. You can tell by the wiggly 8th grader in front of me that this moment was caught while I was working. 😆

Did you know I was a Home Educator for 12 years?? I was! Love working with Homeschool Families like this one! I'm actually off to give a tour to the Belvoir Home Educators this morning. By they way, HOW SWEET AND SMART ARE THESE THREE? They wrote this testimonial THEMSELVES! Thank you, Casey, for this humorous and sincere endorsement. I laughed at the bathrooms part, and was so touched by the rest of your observations. Makes me feel like I am actually the kind of tour guide I strive to be!! Tonya from Blue Star Families National Capital Region Chapter talks about her experiences with me as a tour guest, as a colleague, and as a friend, ALL WHILE HER DOODLE PUP CHARLIE TAKES A BATH IN THE BACKGROUND. I kid you not. Enjoy!!
There are a few things I wish I had said differently (HELLO, DAWN...Native American History IS American History!! ), and simply listening to my own voice is ALL KINDS of cringy, but I am SO PROUD to be the first guide featured for WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH and I hope I did Alexandria and Washington, D.C. due justice. I love my community and it was an honor to represent it on the Travel Experiences Reimagined podcast with Mariel Fry.
