Holiday Outing 2020 Idea #1

12/11/2020

Capitol Christmas Tree

& Botanic garden

Looking to get out and see some holiday lights and charm this month? Over the next few days I'm going to share some ideas for places to go and sights to see! My first suggestion is to head down to see the Capitol Christmas Tree and the plant-based D.C. Landmarks Display (which is a window display this year) at the United States Botanic Garden. I have put details in the captions on the individual pictures. The Botanic Garden Conservatory is located at 100 Maryland Ave. SW, Washington, DC 20001. Recently parking along and around the National Mall has been fairly easy to find - just be sure to pay attention to parking signage! Nearest Metro Station is Federal Center SW.

Halloween 2020 Day Trip

11/1/2020

Day Trip from Alexandria, VA to Great Falls National Park & Leesburg, VA
How long we were gone: Leisurely 7 Hours
How much we spent: Gas & Dinner

(NPS Locations are free to Active Duty Military with Pass, otherwise park entry is $20 per car)
Our son is a grown person now, so Halloween is no longer about costumes and candy, which is weird enough...and then Halloween 2020 was even weirder for the whole-wide-Halloween-celebrating-world. It was a beautiful fall Saturday though, and I had taken the day off, so we decided to head-out on a day-trip adventure...another thing 2020 has prevented us from doing at our usual rate. We drove up the GW Parkway and then back home via Virginia 7. We ended up having such a great time that I thought I'd try out this fancy blog feature on my new website to share what we did in case others might be interested in taking a similar journey. It's really more of a photo essay than a blog though - I wanted to keep it simple for both your benefit and mine! Scroll through the slideshow above for details and click on indicated pictures to open a new window with the related website. And, let me know if you have any questions! Thanks for visiting my first "blog"! ~ Dawn
